To change your password:
- Connect to https://sws.lethpolytech.ca:8443
- Login using your s#, and your SWS password (Note: these accounts are NOT tied to ANY other accounts. Do NOT use the same password for SWS that you use for other services!!)
- When you login, you should be taken to the Change Password page automatically.
If not, select Change Password from under the Login menu on the left.
- Enter your current password, and new password (twice), and click Change Now
Passwords cannot contain your username, nor may they be "changed" to the current password.
- On the bottom of the left-hand column, select Sign out (the red arrow).
To view your web pages:
- Add a tilde (~) and your s# behind a slash (/) at the end of the address of this server - sws.lethpolytech.ca
Example: https://sws.lethpolytech.ca/~s0123456
To upload files:
- Download a sFTP (Secure FTP) client (WinSCP and/or FileZilla are good choices)
- Create a new profile (for later use), or type the information in
manually each time (up to you)!
- The host name is sws.lethpolytech.ca - or, you can use the IP address, 199.185.125.25
- Select the Protocol SFTP, AND make sure to change the port to 10022
-->If you don't have the option of selecting your protocol, add SFTP:// to the beginning of the host name - sftp://sws.lethpolytech.ca -->If you don't have the option of adding a port, add :10022 to the end of the host name - sftp://sws.lethpolytech.ca:10022
- Your username is your s#
- Your password is whatever you've changed your password to
-->When you connect for the first time on a computer, you should be asked to accept a host key - this is normal SFTP behaviour! Verify the host name and port are correct, and accept the key. If you wish, you can choose the option to save the key in cache, so you won't be asked this question again on this computer.
- Your home directory is public_html; put your files in there. Your index
page needs to be index.html, or index.php.
**NOTE: File names are CASE-SeNsItIvE!
** NOTES:
Non-standard ports being blocked:
Some web browsers are being too "helpful" these days, and are blocking the use of non-standard ports (for example, potentially port 8080 - as used in the above link for password changes).
Luckily, there IS a way to make this work, but it's browser-dependant.
For Firefox, try this: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1083282
For Edge, try this: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/discussions/fixed-problem-can-t-open-unsafe-ports-on-edge-insider/m-p/860884
For Chrome, try the same thing as for Edge, above!
